Artist Statement
I'm enraptured by allegory. The way we channel human complexity into stories and symbols is so enticing. Deliberate choices are made about what to conceal from or reveal to a viewer. With enough abstraction the created vignettes will draw in an onlooker to read the visuals left behind. I enjoy setting up a scene, framed by age old devices so that an observer may explore and discover the elements on exhibit.

I am so very excited to talk about the Mini Art Show. A friend of mine told me about it when I said it is a goal to make and sell art for a living. I checked out their website and loved their mission statement:
"To make Art available for an easily attainable price, to empower everyone to make Art, and to give back to our community."
This mostly virtual, ongoing show has 4 exhibits a year of predominately two-dimensional, 3" x 3" pieces . They do have partners to host occasional in person shows (MO and KS) and are looking for more people and places to get involved. A portion of every sale goes to charity. These small pieces are sold for $12 a piece. But that really adds up for everyone involved, if artist submits 20 works per show. The artists, gallery, and communities all benefit. Plus these wonderful people encourage artists of all levels to get involved. They offer kits aimed at different levels of experience and even feature artists and their statements on their website (as you can see what they did for me!). I truly hope this type of program can take off in more communities (and even collaborate between sites!) because the world needs more art and artist need more support.
Please check out their website. Create art. Buy art.
