Susan Budge is the Head of Ceramics and Art Metals at San Antonio College. I studied under her for 4 years. She creates on both a large and intimate scale. I've seen her work in galleries as well as installed in San Antonio'sBotanical Gardens and Brackenridge Park . Her sculptural creations are very playful and sensuous as she pays amazing attention to surface detail and form. The tactile quality of what she constructs is exquisite. I nearly always want to touch her sculptures. She often incorporates an eye into her pieces. They look back on you as you view what has been formed from her subconscious. Its a lovely interaction with her curious forms. Her glaze choices are simple, bright, and complimentary to her sculptures rather than being focus, The colors created add to the movement and playful nature of her pieces.
Nathan Limon is a painter and mixed media artist who lives in San Antonio, Texas. He was born to a large family with many talented offspring, including Jason Limon. I was lucky enough to get to collaborate on quite a few projects with Nathan, in varying media. Our interactions and his work are very influential to my own creative output.
Nathan often deals in the narrative, occasionally relating things from his own life but through anthropomorphic creatures. He is very influenced by the horror genre in film, graphic novel, and advertising. Music and words also shape his paintings. He includes text and references pop culture. His work is nearly always emotive and quite often extremely humorous. His use of color is to die for. The contrasting bright and dark colors compliment his sweet and grotesque figures.

And now for something completely different...
I am often very influenced by film and tv. Its just another form of visual stimulation with which I can find and absorb details. Terry Gilliam is a writer, director, and animator who I grew up watching. I thoroughly appreciate the absurdity of his humor. It touches everything he creates. In Monty Python's Flying Circus he created the animation between dark satirical, comedic sketches. He used imagery from photographs, magazine cutouts, and famous works of art to create hilarious transitions in the show. He pokes fun at everything, including himself. After the Pythons ended the show, he continued to work with them on varying levels in his many movies. He is still making films with many layers of imagery and symbolism infused with a lot of humor.
